Financial Hardship

We understand that unexpected circumstances can make it difficult to meet financial obligations, such as repaying a claims related debt or paying an excess.

We are committed to providing support to eligible applicants experiencing financial hardship, while ensuring any assistance is fair and appropriate. If you are struggling to pay a claims-related amount, you may be eligible for assistance under our Financial Hardship policy.

How We Can Help

Claims related debts and excess payments

If you are having difficulty repaying a debt or paying an excess due to financial hardship, we may consider:

  • Extending the due date for payment
  • Allowing payment in instalments
  • Postponing one or more payments
  • Paying a reduced sum
  • Other arrangements, which may include a combination of the above options or a possible waiver of the debt

All requests are considered on a case by case basis and require evidence of financial hardship.

Fast tracking urgent claims

If you are entitled to a benefit under a GARD insurance policy and have urgent need, we can prioritise the assessment of your claim. In some cases, an advance payment may be possible to provide short-term assistance.
